Wike Accuses APC Governors Of Forgetting To Renew Their Political Gratitude Subscription

Nigeria’s 2027 political season has officially entered the phase where politicians are no longer just campaigning against opponents. They are keeping receipts on everybody who once refused to return their political calls.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has accused the governors of Imo and Kwara states, Hope Uzodinma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, of working against him, despite the political support he says he previously gave both men. Wike made the allegations during a media chat in Port Harcourt, where he particularly accused AbdulRazaq of championing a campaign against him.

At this point, Nigerian politics is beginning to resemble an extended family WhatsApp group where nobody has left the group because everybody is still waiting to see who will embarrass whom next.

According to Wike, AbdulRazaq has accused him of sponsoring political candidates in Kwara, something the FCT Minister disputes. Wike also reminded the Imo governor that he knows the support Wike gave him in the past.

And this is perhaps the most Nigerian thing about the entire situation. In our politics, political support does not appear to come with an expiration date. You can help somebody today and, three years later, still be expecting them to remember the favour when the political weather changes.

Wike insists, however, that these disagreements will not stop him from supporting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. He also argued that politicians who leave the APC for opposition platforms could ultimately work against Tinubu, while those who align with his camp could help the President.

Which means Wike is currently performing one of Nigerian politics’ most complicated balancing acts: remaining in the PDP, supporting an APC president, fighting with some APC governors and simultaneously insisting that everybody should be working towards the same political destination.

Even Google Maps may struggle with this route.

The interesting part is that Uzodinma chairs the APC Governors’ Forum, while AbdulRazaq chairs the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, making both men fairly important players in the political machinery Wike is currently navigating.

Wike says he has never hidden his political intentions. And, to be fair, subtlety has never exactly been his strongest political accessory.

For now, the governors have not publicly launched a counterattack.

But this is Nigerian politics. The silence may simply mean the reply is still loading.
