The paper
Nigeria’s Most Reliable Source Of Unreliable News.
The National Cake is a satirical newsroom. We write fictional stories about Nigerian politics, the economy, and the everyday absurdities of life in the most dramatic country on Earth, and we write them with a straight face.
Our mission is simple: to say the quiet part loudly, but as a joke, so everyone can laugh while quietly agreeing. We believe satire is a public service. Somebody has to file dispatches from the queue, the traffic, and the fourth committee formed to investigate the third committee, and it might as well be us.
Everything on this site is fiction. The names are invented, the quotes are invented, and the events are invented, though we accept that Nigeria occasionally invents them back at us within the week. When reality plagiarises our headlines, that is reality’s problem.
Because we are satire, none of our stories should be read as factual reporting, repeated as news, or (and we cannot stress this enough) used as evidence in any court of law. For the full notice, see our Satire Notice.
We are a small newsroom of writers, editors, and one generator that has not had annual leave since 2015. The National Cake is published by The Kulture Company Ltd.
