Tinubu and APC Have Asked the Court to Kill Atiku’s Forgery Case, Because 2027 Has Already Entered Courtroom Drama

Nigeria has not even reached election year properly, but everybody is already bringing documents, lawyers, and accusations to the party.

If you thought Nigerian politicians would wait until 2027 before starting the serious drama, please think again. We have reached the stage where presidential candidates are taking each other to court over certificates.

President Bola Tinubu and the APC have asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss Atiku Abubakar and the ADC’s suit alleging that Tinubu submitted a forged NYSC discharge certificate to INEC. Atiku wants the court to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 presidential election if the allegation is established.

But Tinubu and APC have basically entered court with the energy of somebody saying, “Your Honour, this case should not even be here.”

Their lawyers deny that any forged certificate was submitted and argue that the NYSC has never disowned the certificate in question. They also say Atiku was not an APC member, did not participate in the party’s presidential primary, and therefore has no business challenging how APC selected its candidate.

That argument alone is giving Nigerian family meeting.

Imagine somebody entering your compound and saying, “I don't like the person you chose as your first son.”

You will probably look at him and ask, “Were you in the family meeting?”

Apparently, that is now the political version of “Who sent you?”

Tinubu’s lawyers are also arguing that an allegation of forgery is a serious criminal allegation and must be proved beyond reasonable doubt. They say Atiku and the ADC have not produced a disclaimer from NYSC saying the certificate was not issued, nor provided the original document and alleged forged version necessary to establish the claim.

Meanwhile, Atiku’s camp is arguing that the disputed certificate and questions surrounding Tinubu’s eligibility deserve judicial examination, including whether the alleged document affects his qualification to contest the 2027 election.

So basically, one side is saying “prove it,” while the other is saying “let the court investigate it.”

And Nigerians are sitting down with popcorn.

The matter has been fixed for September 28 before Justice Inyang Ekwo.

At this rate, by the time Nigerians actually reach the ballot box in 2027, the politicians may have already completed the election in court.
