Obi and Kwankwaso Just Announced a 59-Person Committee, and Somehow None of Them Are the "Real" Campaign Team Yet

Let me save you the scroll. The OK Movement, the support group built around Peter Obi and his new running mate Rabiu Kwankwaso, just unveiled a 59-member Presidential Campaign Council. Fifty-nine people. For a movement. Not even the actual party yet.

Quick catch-up for anyone who blinked: Obi is no longer running under the Labour Party banner from 2023, he's now the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. And Kwankwaso, his running mate, has had a busier year than most Nollywood plots: APC senator, years leading his own NNPP, resigned from NNPP in March, briefly stopped by the ADC, then landed at NDC in May to team up with Obi. At this point Kwankwaso's party membership history reads like a phone that's been through three different screen protectors.

Anyway, back to the 59. There's a Director-General (John Ughulu), a National Secretary (Saadatu Sani), zonal coordinators for all six geopolitical zones, coordinators for all 36 states plus the FCT, and then the specialty roles start getting delightfully specific, Director of Women Affairs, Director of Special Duties, Director of Procurement, and a personal favorite, Director of the Inter-Ethnic Group in Northern Nigeria. Nigeria really said: if we're doing a committee, we're doing a whole cabinet.

Here's the part that makes it funnier, an NDC spokesperson had to clarify that this 59-person council is not the official party campaign council. That one is "coming separately." So somewhere out there, an even bigger committee is being assembled, and this 59-person army is just the opening act.

Meanwhile, Sani says the movement isn't built around any one individual, which is a bold thing to say about a movement whose entire name is two individuals' surnames mashed together.

We'll see how many more councils show up before 2027 actually arrives.
