FG Launches 11-Character Postcode, Nigerians Just Want to Know If NEPA Bill Will Finally Find Them
Nigeria’s new 11-character postcode promises to end “turn left after the akara woman” navigation forever. Citizens, however, are asking whether this means ambulances, deliveries, tax letters and the NEPA bill will now locate them with equal confidence.

While everybody was still processing "age of prosperity," the government quietly dropped another gist: Nigeria now has an 11-character digital postcode, and apparently every single building in the country, yes, including that compound with no proper gate number, is supposed to get its own unique address code. Something like FC 02 A09 DB 09. Very sophisticated. Very "we are now a serious nation" energy.
The idea, per the Minister, is that every home and business gets a precise digital location, so delivery guys, banks, emergency services, and whoever else can stop relying on "the house with the blue gate, after the roundabout, ask anybody." Honestly? Long overdue. We've been doing landmark-based navigation since creation. "Turn by the woman selling akara, then if you reach the church, you don reach."
But let's be real for one second: this is Nigeria, and the real test was never going to be the technology, it's whether anybody actually uses it. Government built the portal, made the countdown clock, did the launch, very proud moment. Meanwhile, half of us don't even know our own LGA correctly, let alone be ready to memorise an 11-character alphanumeric code like it's a WAEC registration number.
And of course, the real anxiety is setting in: the moment your house has a precise, GIS-mapped, machine-readable address, abeg, who exactly is finding you first? Will it be your Jumia delivery, or will it be one tax assessment letter that has never successfully located your street before? Because we've seen this movie: as soon as the government can "see" you clearly, something always follows.
Still, credit where it's due: if this actually works, rural areas with zero formal addressing finally get put on the map, literally. Maiaddy, Google Maps, your bank KYC, all singing the same tune for once instead of five different descriptions of the same house.
So congratulations, Nigeria, you now officially have an address. Just don't be shocked when the first thing that finds it isn't your Amazon package, it's somebody from FIRS saying, "we've been looking for you."

October 1 Don Reach, So Where's My Cheap Transport Fare?
October 1 has arrived with cheaper transport fares reportedly available in select Nigerian locations, much like constant electricity and free Wi-Fi in government offices. For everyone else, conductors appear to be treating the announcement as motivational content.
