Tiwa Savage Told Teni "Pick a Date," and Now the Whole Country Is Their Promoter
With three words and no emoji, Tiwa Savage accidentally turned Nigeria into Matchroom Boxing with a ring light. No promoter, no venue, no paperwork, just vibes, posters, and ₦1.5 billion already doing roadwork in everybody’s imagination.

Teni dropped a video last Friday where she was supposedly talking about how much entertainers earn and the cars some artistes drive. Somewhere in the middle, she got angry, challenged Tiwa Savage to a boxing match, and proposed a ₦1.5 billion purse. Her reasoning was simple: would that money buy a Bugatti? That is what we call a business plan.
She also said she'd beat Tiwa so thoroughly that she wouldn't even look at her son's face, and then sing "My Darling" for her afterwards. That's the most Nigerian threat I've ever heard: violence followed by a performance. Fight first, serenade later.
Now, Tiwa could have ignored it. She could have posted a "we move" quote. Instead, she replied in the comments with three words: "Pick a date."
Three words, no emoji, no hashtag. That's not a reply, that's a contract signed in lowercase.
And just like that, the internet became the promoter. By Saturday, everybody had picked sides, designed posters, and started negotiating undercard fights. Somebody's aunty in Ibadan is already selling tickets.
But here's the funniest part: as of now, there is no promoter, no formal agreement, and no date. The biggest fight in Nigerian entertainment exists only in a comment section. This is the most Nigerian event plan imaginable: huge hype, big money, zero paperwork, and the venue "to be announced."
Remember, this is all happening days after Phyna knocked out Nkechi Blessing in a celebrity boxing bout at the Federal Palace Hotel. In one week, we've gone from reality stars throwing punches to music stars requesting calendars. Celebrity boxing is now an official sport, right behind football and arguing about jollof.
And let's be honest: Nigerians are already well trained for this. We fight for fuel, for seats in the danfo, and for the last piece of meat at an owambe. We have the stamina.
So, Teni, pick the date. Tiwa, bring the gloves. And whoever is paying ₦1.5 billion, please check your account, because a lot of us will apply to be the ring girl.
Just no cameras on the undercard. We've seen enough drama.
