APC Reopens Membership Registration Same Week Kuje Chairman Denies Telling People To "Leave," Timing Impeccable

So APC has reopened electronic membership registration nationwide, welcoming new members with open arms and fresh forms, and this is happening the exact same week their own Kuje council chairman is busy explaining that he never told residents to "vote APC or leave." Beautiful timing. One hand is extending a warm invitation, the other hand is doing damage control from an invitation that sounded a bit too much like an eviction notice.

Now the chairman says it was a misunderstanding, that his words were taken out of context, the classic Nigerian politician recovery play. Because apparently "vote APC or leave" can mean several things if you squint hard enough, encouragement, motivation, a Monday morning pep talk, anything except what everybody heard the first time.

Meanwhile, APC's national registration drive is out here saying "join us, everybody is welcome," while somewhere in Kuje, actual residents are wondering if joining is now a survival requirement rather than a political choice. It's giving mixed signals, recruitment poster in one hand, quiet warning in the other.

This is the beauty of Nigerian party politics though: national leadership can be running the smoothest "everybody come dance with us" campaign, while local chairmen somewhere are out here doing their own freestyle version of "join or else," and by the time it reaches the news, national leadership has to pretend they've never met this particular chairman in their life.

Give it a few days, and expect the usual sequence: an internal party statement distancing itself from "the chairman's personal comments," followed by absolutely no consequence for the chairman, followed by everybody moving on like it never happened, until the next chairman somewhere says something equally unserious.

For now, though, if you're in Kuje and undecided about registration, congratulations, apparently you now have homework and a deadline nobody sent you officially.
