Politician Defects to Party Offering Better Rice
A prominent politician has defected after concluding that the rival party’s campaign rice had better texture, aroma and political value. Insiders say Nigeria’s democracy is fast becoming a buffet system, with parties now in an emergency race to upgrade from stones to meat.

In what party insiders have described as "a strategic carbohydrate realignment," a prominent Nigerian politician has officially defected to a rival political party after concluding that its campaign rice was of noticeably better quality.
Addressing journalists while holding a freshly branded party umbrella, broom, or whatever symbol happened to be fashionable this week, the politician dismissed allegations of opportunism.
"My ideology has always been food security," he explained. "After extensive consultations with my stomach, I discovered that patriotism tastes better with imported long-grain rice than with the local stones my former party was distributing."
Supporters, many of whom had also defected within minutes, insisted the move was based entirely on "the people's interest," a phrase political observers say now translates roughly to "whoever is serving meat."
The politician further clarified that his decision followed months of careful policy analysis, including side-by-side comparisons of rice aroma, stew viscosity, and the average number of chicken parts allocated per rally attendee.
Analysts say the defection has triggered panic among several political parties, with emergency meetings reportedly convened to review catering standards ahead of the next election season. One party has already announced plans to include bottled soft drinks and takeaway packs in its membership recruitment strategy.
Meanwhile, ordinary Nigerians watched the latest political migration with remarkable composure.
"Last election it was dollars. This time it's rice," sighed a Lagos resident. "By the next election, politicians will probably be crossing carpets because another party is offering jollof with two pieces of meat."
Political scientists have since classified Nigerian democracy as the world's first fully operational buffet system.
