NEPA Apologises for Interrupting Citizens' Darkness With Brief Electricity Supply
The agency says normal darkness has been restored after a “technical oversight” left fans spinning, fridges humming, and Nigerians briefly suspecting national development. Investigators are now searching for the staff member behind the shocking outbreak of efficiency.

The National Electricity Preservation Authority (popularly known by Nigerians as NEPA, regardless of its official name) has issued a heartfelt apology after mistakenly supplying electricity to several communities for nearly three uninterrupted hours on Tuesday, describing the incident as "an unfortunate technical oversight."
In a statement, the agency assured Nigerians that normal darkness had since been restored.
"We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by the unexpected availability of power," the statement read. "We understand many residents were startled when fans suddenly began rotating on their own without generators."
Across Lagos, confused residents reportedly rushed outside to investigate the strange humming sound coming from their refrigerators, while several children born after 2020 were said to have mistaken ceiling fans for newly installed government projects.
"I nearly called my landlord," said one Surulere resident. "I thought he had secretly connected us to another country."
The brief electricity supply also caused widespread panic among generator owners, many of whom reportedly ran outside to confirm that nobody had stolen their fuel.
One man admitted he instinctively pulled the recoil starter of his generator anyway, "just in case the light remembered itself."
Electronics shops have also complained of significant losses after customers postponed emergency purchases of power banks, rechargeable lamps, extension cords and inverter batteries during what analysts are now calling "The Great Three-Hour Blackout of Darkness."
Meanwhile, churches across the country have begun collecting testimonies from members who witnessed televisions working without the accompaniment of generator noise.
At press time, NEPA had reassured citizens that investigations were ongoing to identify the employee responsible for the accidental electricity supply, promising appropriate disciplinary action to ensure such a shocking display of efficiency would never happen again.
