AMVCA Adds 'Best Apology Video' Category
Organisers say nominees will be judged on fake tears, strategic pauses and the ability to say “I take full responsibility” without accepting blame, as PR teams prepare premium apology packages complete with Bible verse and ring light.

In what organisers have described as "recognition of outstanding contributions to modern entertainment," Nigeria's biggest movie awards, AMVCA have officially introduced a new category: Best Apology Video, following what industry insiders called an "unprecedented year of elite public remorse."
According to the organisers, the category was created after judges noticed that celebrities now spend more time apologising than promoting their actual work.
Nominees will be assessed on emotional delivery, strategic pauses, lighting, background selection, visible suffering, and the ability to say "I take full responsibility" without technically admitting to anything.
Extra points will be awarded for beginning with, "I've taken some time to reflect," while maintaining perfect eye contact with the camera.
"This is the future of content," said one judge. "Some apology videos generate more engagement than blockbuster movies. We felt it was time to celebrate excellence."
A leaked judging guideline reportedly deducts points for laughing, reading from obvious cue cards or blaming "bloggers" before the third minute.
Industry observers say competition is expected to be fierce, with several public figures already rehearsing in anticipation of scandals they haven't committed yet.
One management company has reportedly hired a dedicated Crisis Director whose only responsibility is choosing between white walls, luxury living rooms or church auditoriums as apology backdrops.
Meanwhile, PR agencies have launched premium packages that include scriptwriting, fake tears, comment-section cleanup and a complimentary Bible verse for audiences over 40.
At press time, organisers confirmed that winners will not receive their trophies immediately, but will first be required to upload a second video apologising to those who believed someone else deserved the award.
